Pap Smears

A pap smear is a procedure to test for cervical cancer in women, a pap smear can also detect certain viral infections such as HPV (human papilomavirus).

A pap smear involves collecting cells from your cervix- using a small brush and a small spatula- the specimen is sent to a lab to check for abnormal cell changes and cervical cancer.

Doctors recommend that a pap smear should start at the age of 21 and then typically every 3-5 years.
